Will Polly Find Her Prince Charming? Find Out During This Performance of The Boy Friend

The Jazz Age lives on in The Boy Friend! Written in the fifties as "a new musical of the twenties," this is still considered the most successful and witty of the send-up musicals. Experience Sandy Wilson’s rousing tale at The Firehouse Theatre this Saturday, February 16th!

This romantic spoof of 1920s musical comedies, set against the backdrop of the French Riviera, tells the story of Polly, an English heiress who is longing for only one thing: a boy friend. Her father, convinced that any boy who isn't wealthy will court her strictly for her money, forbids her to engage any potential suitors.

Honoring his wishes, Polly explains to Tony (the messenger boy with whom she's fallen in love) that she is no rich girl. This is just the tip of the mistaken identity iceberg, as love proceeds to find its way through nearly every member of the cast, bringing them all to a happy ending. The play is filled to the brim with tongue-in-cheek moments that both parents and grandparents will love.

Sandy Wilson’s career in the theatre began with contributions to Hermione Gingold's revue Slings and Arrows and Laurie Lister's Oranges and Lemons. In 1953 he wrote The Boy Friend for the Players' Theatre, which went on to become a hit in London, at Wyndham's (running for five years), on Broadway, and all over the world.

Tickets to The Boy Friend range from $20-$28 and may be purchased online. This play is rated G and is acceptable for all audiences. For more information, visit www.thefirehousetheatre.com.
